As more cloud providers look to leverage cloud platforms that may help them offer an infrastructure as a service to compete with Amazon EC2, providers like Joyent can be in an excellent position to fulfill that demand

Cloud infrastructure provider Joyent announced on Wednesday that it has named Henry Wasik chief executive officer.

Joyent also launched its fabric-based cloud infrastructure platform, Joyent7. The platform is designed to support data-intensive, device-based needs of enterprises and cloud service providers, in line with the click release.

These moves come a couple of months after Joyent announced its TextDrive infrastructure would not be available to customers. Inside the backlash, TextDrive founder Dean Allen decided to interrupt off right into a new hosting company to continue to honor the agreement. Allen described the choice in an interview with the WHIR in September, and the migration to the hot infrastructure was set to appear on November 1.

The new leadership and product can help you reverse whatever brand damage Joyent suffered after the TextDrive decision, which was met with criticism from customers.

As more cloud providers look to leverage cloud platforms if you want to help them compete with Amazon EC2, providers like Joyent could be in a fine position to satisfy that demand. As an instance, earlier this week, Telefonica launched Instant Servers, a public cloud IaaS to compete with Amazon EC2, using Joyent technology.

“Joyent has developed an innovative and highly differentiated cloud infrastructure designed to fulfill the hot requirements of today’s burgeoning web and mobile applications,” Henry Wasik, CEO, Joyent said in a press release. “This can be a cloud infrastructure provider that, early on, decided to speculate in performance and reliability first — and it shows. From exciting upstarts like ModCloth and Voxer to the world’s leading cloud services providers, like Telefonica, Joyent has nurtured an enthusiastic customer base. IaaS, a $6.2 billion market today with a projected compound annual growth rate growth of 41.7 percent from 2012 through 2016, is the fastest-growing segment of public cloud services. Joyent is definitely positioned to capitalize on that dynamic growth, building on a foundation of innovative technology, an outstanding team and fast-growing customers.”

According to Joyent, Wasik might help accelerate its growth within the cloud IaaS market. He brings greater than two decades of senior leadership experience to Joyent.

Most recently, Wasik served as president and CEO of knowledge center networking firm Force10 Networks where he grew its revenue tenfold to $200 million after he joined in 2004. In August 2011, Dell acquired Force10.

“Around the board, Henry is a good match for Joyent. He’s in lockstep with our vision for a brand new economy of knowledge centers and cloud services,” Jason Hoffman, founder and CTO, Joyent said in a press release. “We’ve spent years building the most effective technology for real-time applications and are able to serve a broader audience. Henry’s leadership and expertise will lead Joyent into our next phase of rapid growth.”

Joyent7 features Node.js de-bugging and function tools, unified directory services, billing and fiscal management, updated cloud operations dashboard and toolkit, workflow APIs and information center local storage, consistent with the click release.

Joyent7 is scheduled for a whole enterprise release in early 2013.
