Cloudian might not be a recognizable name within the industry, but which may all soon change with its first major global partnership which may make its Amazon S3-compatible cloud object storage platform available to users worldwide.

The cloud software provider announced this week it signed a take care of global IT services provider NTT Communications through which the Cloudian platform will power NTT’s cloud storage service, Biz Hosting Cloudn Object Storage.

The customer win is a big one for Cloudian and its platform, which was in development for over 3 years. The platform is designed for enterprises, web hosts, and repair providers which are seeking to offer Amazon S3-compatible storage as a service, or provide secondary storage systems for his or her cloud platforms.

Cloudian first rolled out the platform for general availability last year, and has since been gradually building a customer base of providers and end users.

In September, Cloudian launched its Cloudian Community Edition, offering a free version of the S3-compatible cloud storage platform for anyone to check out.

The Cloudian Community Edition gives users the entire functionality of the platform’s commercial version with a complete storage capacity of 100 TB and forum support.

“We wish to promote the worth of object storage technology, which to many of us is something new,” said Bob DeFeo, vp of economic development at Cloudian. “The concept of the Community Edition was to permit people to grasp the price of object storage and what it’s. We also desired to promote the cost of S3 API and help people understand what they get from utilizing the S3 ecosystem.”

In the past six weeks, the Community Edition has attracted a gentle stream of downloads from quite a number users, including IT professions within corporations and people who want to experiment with the software.

“We’ve also gotten a response an excellent response from a lot of small web hosts that every one realize that they should migrate their cloud-oriented services,” said DeFeo.

Now, with Cloudian powering NTT Communication’s cloud storage service, Cloudian’s platform might be deployed on a world level–initially via NTT Communications data centers in Japan, after which soon at data centers within the U.s.a. and around the globe. NTT Communications has a large global data center footprint, which was only increased through its recent acquisition of Gyron.

After researching all of the available solutions available in the market, NTT Communications chose Cloudian for the reason that platform provided the best level of S3 compatibility, scalability, multi-tenant and multi-data center capabilities.

The move can certainly be seen as Cloudian’s first big break considering the scope of NTT Communications’ brand recognition and market reach.

“Landing a very large Tetabyte-plus depoloyment was a key initiative and what really would drive market validation for both the corporate and the product,” said DeFeo.

As Cloudian expands its brand recognition and market reach on a worldwide level, the corporate is likewise adamant on educating the enterprise market concerning the benefits of creating a personal cloud solution with object storage for you to enable true hybrid cloud storage.

“We believe we’re the only 1 supporting the E3 API at this level of compatibility and doing it natively,” said DeFeo. “Almost all people are doing it through some API translation layer, and we built this into the product natively from day one. We also think this narrative fits into what we’re looking to promote with the Community Edition besides, that’s the concept you might promote private clouds very inexpensively and you’ll drive your storage cost down significantly via object storage technology.”
