Expedient will significantly expand its second Pittsburgh data center located within Allegheny Center Mall.

Web hosting and information center provider Expedient announced on Tuesday it’s going to significantly expand its second Pittsburgh data center located within Allegheny Center Mall.

This marks Expedient’s third data center expansion within the Pittsburgh market since 2008 when the ACM facility first opened.

The move follows Expedient’s sale of its 26,080-square-foot data center in Pittsburgh’s Parkway Center to real estate fund Gladstone Commercial last December.

The multi-million dollar expansion project will double the quantity of raised floor space on the company’s second Pittsburgh data center and may expand the present facility to a complete of 18,000 square feet of computing space and 25,000 square feet overall.

Expedient has already performed an intensive engineering study and bought long lead time items in preparation for the 8,000 square foot raised floor space expansion.

The expansion build out might be adjacent to its current data center and could be constructed over a six month period. Expedient’s multi-city network of information centers will immediately be capable to access the brand new space through a fully redundant 10Gig fiber backbone connection.

The facility will house the company’s fourth generation of cloud computing/virtual hosting pods, with each pod offering customers over 3,000GB of memory in 1GB increments.

Upon completion, the expanded Pittsburgh ACM Data Center can have more than a few features including 18,000 square feet of raised floor, dual power feeds, two 2,200KW Caterpillar generators, four UPS systems, 500 lots of cooling, diverse telecommunications fiber infrastructure, multi-tiered security system, FE25 fire suppression and VESDA fire detection system and an absolutely staffed 24-hour Operations Support Center.

Expedient currently offers a virtual video tour of the Expedient Pittsburgh ACM data center.

Aside from Pittsburgh, Expedient operates in Cleveland, Indianapolis, Columbus, Baltimore and Boston. The corporate provides colocation, managed servers, cloud hosting, backup, monitoring, load balancing, colocation, and hosted Exchange email.
