Security for your WordPress website

Posted on June 24, 2017 at 9:02 am

Websites require a high level of protection due to the increase in internet hackers. It is important that you take extra security precautions when it comes to your website.

Firstly, you should have a secure login and password system. Passwords should consist of a mixture of letters, numbers and symbols, including capitals and lower cases. Passwords should be of good length, with passwords over 10 characters providing better security.  Change your password frequently and do not give this information out to anyone who is not part of the sites admin team.

Other ways to protect your website is by installing WordPress security plugins, this can help detect hackers and block them from entering into the administration section of your site.

Having a reliable host will help improve the security of your site, and always make sure they have an automatic backup system in place as this will make sure your site content isn’t completely lost if it is hacked.

Detecting Phishing Sites

Posted on March 11, 2015 at 2:33 pm

There are all sorts of things you’ve got to watch out for when browsing online. Suspicious links, viruses in emails, vulgar content and phishing websites.

Phishing websites are internet web pages that mimic a real web page like Facebook or a personal banking site. They mimic them visually, copying the webpage exactly so that it looks the same as the original.

Phishing websites are set up in this way with the intention of stealing an individuals user details, such as passwords and email addresses. If a user happens to enter their log in details into a phishing website, the hackers can potentially steal these details and use them to fraudulently gain access to that users account.

There are other types of phishing techniques that hackers employ, including sending fake emails to people. Again these are sent out in the form of an email from a real company or website, such as a bank, with the intention of gaining that users personal information.
